That's why -- that's why we've ended the unwarranted taxpayer subsidies that went to banks and used the savings to make college affordable for millions of students.
That's why I'm so proud of what we've done with -- (applause) -- that's why I'm so proud with what we've done with Race to the Top.
And that's why the consumption has been so high, and that's why it's such a problem that Exxon Mobil produced less oil in 2005 than it did in 2004.
And that's why I mentioned yesterday -- I mentioned yesterday the single best anti-poverty program around is a world-class education. (Applause.) That's why we're going to invest in early childhood education.

That's why we need Ben Bernanke to continue the work he's doing, and that's why I've said that we cannot go back to an economy based on overleveraged banks, inflated profits, and maxed-out credit cards.
That's why the Welsh government sent in a team of commissioners to sort it out and that's why people there are going to the polls to elect their councillors a year later than everyone else.
That's why I want to cut the growth of tuition in half over the next 10 years. (Applause.) That's why I want to recruit 100, 000 new math and science teachers so our country doesn't fall behind.
So I think that's why the President felt strongly about including the authority for rate review, and I think that's why the American people want -- the American people want someone to be on their side looking into this.
That's why it's so important to train our folks more effectively and that's why it's so important for us to find new industries -- building solar panels or wind turbines or the new biofuel -- that involve these higher-value, higher-skill, higher-paying jobs.
That's why we acted boldly, that's why we acted swiftly to put in place a Recovery Act that was passed with the help of members of Congress here tonight, and that's being carried out with help from governors and mayors here tonight.
That's why I signed a law that says Americans should pay as we go and live within our means. (Applause.) That's why yesterday I announced a bipartisan fiscal commission that will help us meet our fiscal challenges once and for all.
That's why -- that's why we will support -- we will provide the support necessary for all young Americans to complete college and meet a new goal: By 2020, America will once again have the highest proportion of college graduates in the world.
That's why we passed the Fair Pay Act to stop pay discrimination. (Applause.) That's why we appointed people who are actually fulfilling their responsibilities to make sure that the offices and factories and mines workers that clock in each day, that they're actually safe on the job.

That's why he's focused on it and that's why he continues to believe that while there are great disagreements -- and he talks about the stalemate that exists here in Washington, a stalemate that the voters can settle in November -- prior to that, there are things that we do agree on that we can act on: tax cuts for the middle class.
