About a quarter of admissions officers at the nation's top 500 colleges have used websites such as Facebook and Google to vet applicants, according to an annual Kaplan Test Prep survey.
Typical test-marketing survey mumbo jumbo suggests that the phone would offer "all the exciting Google services from the PC" and -- thanks largely to targeted advertising -- affordable (as it's been suggested) flat-rate data service and a three-month trial.
This lines up with a recent Kaplan Test Prep and Admissions survey of 973 high school students who had used their company to prepare for the April ACT and May SAT.
Though it is still early, the school says its first survey of the test group already points to high satisfaction with the device.

"I think we're close to the point where, instead of a dietitian saying, 'Eat less fat, eat more fruits and vegetables, ' they could figure out what foods you do or don't like with a survey or genetic test, " says John Hayes, a professor of food science at Penn State and lead author of a 2010 study showing supertasters' preference for salt.
Among schools without a policy, more than a quarter say they have checked out a student's online persona, up slightly from last year, said Jeff Olson, vice president of data science at Kaplan Test Prep, who conducted the survey this summer.
When the researchers compared the survey findings with the sperm test results they found the link between sedentary lifestyle and low sperm count.
Most recently, IWV commissioned a study in Colorado, which began with a baseline survey of 800 Independents to test their knowledge about key economic facts.

On Wednesday the Food Standards Agency said it would co-ordinate a UK-wide survey of beef products to test for the possible presence of horse or pig DNA. There will be "additional emphasis on brands at the lower end of the market, particularly for burger-type products", it said.
Eight out of 10 of the 1, 300 people who opted to take part in the survey did not agree with the test, it says.

Many physicians take issue with the scope of a test like Biophysical's, maintaining that even healthy people will show some abnormal results in such a broad survey.
Cynan Ellis-Evans of the British Antarctic Survey in Cambridge, UK, said the idea of using a small lake away from Vostok to test methods would now have to be looked at again.
