The Home Office has been seeking to tighten up routes of entry into the UK and break the link between temporarymigration and permanent settlement as part of efforts to substantially reduce levels of net migration.
If the migrant workers needed by the American economy were allowed to enter legally through an orderly process of increased quotas--for temporary and permanent migration--practically all of the negative aspects associated with the immigration of low-skilled labor would cease.
"Removing the current restrictions would cause migration to increase and cause those who currently come to the UK for temporary purposes to seek more permanent employment in the UK, " he added.
