David Tebbutt, 58, from Herts, was shot dead at a remote Kenyan resort on 11 September.
Tebbutt was abducted from a safari lodge in the popular Kenyan tourist town of Lamu in September.
Ali Babitu Kololo denied the abduction of 56-year-old Judith Tebbutt, and a charge of robbery with violence.
Her favorite officer was Colin Tebbutt, who had retired from the Royal Squad.
It is not clear if the people now holding Judith Tebbutt are the same as those who kidnapped her.
Bob Tebbutt, vice president of risk management for PFGCanada, said perhaps too much immediate weight is given to the meeting.
He said it was believed the pirate gang holding Mrs Tebbutt was in the process of appointing a translator and negotiator.
Mrs Tebbutt was reportedly taken at first to a part of southern Somalia largely controlled by the Islamist extremist group al-Shabaab.
Judith Tebbutt said in a statement she was hugely relieved to be free and overjoyed to be reunited with her son, Ollie.
Tebbutt was flown out of Adado, Somalia, to the Kenyan capital, Nairobi.
Tebbutt's release came after lengthy negotiations between elders in Adado and local authorities, said Omar Mohammed Diirey, a regional administration official in central Somalia.
Tebbutt said if the situation in the European Union can show signs of being fixed, then silver should be able to build on its gains.

"These pirates are unlikely to have any kind of compassion for Judith Tebbutt and the fact that her husband was shot dead in front of her, " our correspondent added.

The BBC's East Africa correspondent, Will Ross, says the court case may shed some light on the attack itself but it is unlikely to help in the effort to secure Mrs Tebbutt's release.
