Development of the G650 survived a crisis in 2011, when one of the jets crashed during a takeoffperformance test in New Mexico, killing two Gulfstream pilots and two flight test engineers.
These winglets, which Cessna says increase fuel efficiency and takeoff and landing performance at higher elevations and on hot days, were previously available as an aftermarket option on the Citation X but come as standard on the new model.
Much more than a cosmetic enhancement for visual appeal, they increase lift, reduce drag and lower stall speed, which translates to a considerable performance boost on takeoff, climb, cruise and landing.
