The beautiful amphitheater of Apalta, along with other subregions of the Colchagua Valley, seems to be the perfect home to most of the so-called Bordeaux varietals, as well as Syrah.

There was a lot else to like about the vintage, too, including the fact that it floated many small boats, quality-wise, in lesser-known subregions, and produced a wonderful crop of sweet white Sauternes and Barsacs.
