However, STV is now committed to providing distinct local news programmes for Glasgow and Edinburgh for the foreseeable future and also offers local advertisers air time.

As well as providing the Channel 3 service for most of Scotland, STV is one of four bidders for the new local TV licences for Glasgow and Edinburgh.
Some viewers and politicians are unhappy that viewers in the south of Scotland receive less Scottish news than viewers in the rest of the country who receive STV.
The subject of whether STV would provide a distinct news service for the south - or simply incorporate the area into existing programmes - is not raised in the document.
Mr Collier, who has previously worked for South of Scotland SNP MSP Joan McAlpine, said the Borders may get "better and more relevant news coverage" if it came from STV, which is based in Glasgow.
