The meeting, held at Rhodes University, was a follow-up to astudy undertaken last year by UNESCO to map the media training landscape across the continent and to assess potential excellence according to three broad criteria areas.
Previous projects have included everything from workshops on designing and building less-polluting cookstoves to efforts to build and repair schools and roads to a two-year survey by scientists to study and map the Mekong.
The orbiter will carry instruments to study gamma ray and heat emissions from the planet and construct a global map of the planet's elemental composition.
The study also has been cited by unions and turned into an online map by a manufacturers and steelworkers group, where users can click on their states and see the toll of trade there.
