Landsea and others have studied meteorological characteristics since the mid-1940s when reliable records were first collected to investigate what might have caused the upswing of stormactivity in 1995.
So it's out near the dateline and in the central Pacific, and that moves a lot of tropical stormactivity, thunderstorm activity, away from where it normally is north of Australia in the Monsoon region and the Indonesian region.
That the storm gathered strength in the Gulf over the weekend and hit the coast early on Monday could also have limited trading activity--there might have been more trading had the storm gathered strength and remained headed in an uncertain direction during trading hours.
Among the possibilities: Have astronauts wear a deployable shield resembling a heavy winter coat or have them hunker down in a storm shelter aboard the spacecraft during periods of high solar activity.
I'm very thankful for the efforts of everyone who has worked tirelessly to help this region resume normal activity, even in the face of this latest storm.
