We believe, these factors coupled with the fact that NetApp is one of the pioneers in virtualization will help it gainstorage market share as more organizations turn to virtualized infrastructure as the preferred way of delivering and running applications going forward.
Employees are accustomed to personal clouds that provide easy access to information over multiple devices and IT has embraced cloud services to gain cheaper storage and processing power.
Perhaps the biggest gain may be in dual storage computers where a flash memory device is used for storing operating systems, software and frequently accessed content (and maybe even for write caching) while a hard disk drive provides much less expensive mass storage of user data.
However, faced with competition from the storage market leader EMC in its core unified storage market, NetApp may find it increasingly hard to gain further market share.
The company is focusing first on embedding the technology within selected portable electronic applications to gain early revenues, while continuing its development focus on large-scale storage applications.
