Although men are not affected by the stereotype threat effect when they are the employees negotiating a higher salary, they do allow stereotype threat to flourish, albeit unknowingly, when they are the employer being negotiated with.
Although there exists no clear prescription for overcoming the stereotype threat effect, women can learn how to be better negotiators by recognizing its existence.
Only when people on both sides of a salary negotiation fight against the stereotype threat effect will women truly be able to negotiate fairly and without fear of prejudice.
