On Tuesday, spokesman Thomas Steg defended the government's reaction, saying Germany had "not been silent", and that early details about the case had not been sufficiently clear for a "spontaneous reaction".
"Both of them believe that their position is highly reasonable and promising and that a peaceful solution is possible by reinforcing the work of the inspectors in disarming Iraq, " said German Government spokesman Thomas Steg.
