In hindsight, like they did with Eastman Chemicals the digital imaging part of Kodak should have been spun off early to operate very independently without any concern for other imaging parts of the company.
In 2000 a company called Advalytix was spun out of his research (which, through a series of acquisitions, ended up as part of Danaher, a big maker of electronic sensors).
