Now many Smithtown residents want their town council to get more out of Verizon.
Several other towns topped 2 feet: Setauket, Smithtown, Port Jefferson, Mount Sinai, Islip, Huntington and Commack.
But before it can do that in Smithtown, it will need approval from the town's 115, 000 residents.
Verizon's legal negotiations with Smithtown's government started in July after the company had built a "significant amount" of its fiber network.
Last summer, Verizon approached Smithtown, a town about 50 miles outside of New York City, to discuss its plans to offer TV.
Five more franchises, including Smithtown s, could be sealed this week.
At Smithtown's first public hearing on Sept. 26, more than 75 people flooded the town's tiny boardroom with election night fervor to comment on the 30-page franchise agreement.
Smithtown Building Department Director John Bongino said officials are concerned that the weight from the snow and rain could lead to building collapses, especially on structures with flat roofs.
Assuming New York's state public service commission approves the Smithtown franchise this week, residents will soon be able to order Verizon television service, and the company will be close to its 200th local agreement nationwide, covering more than 3.5 million households.
"She read a paper about this new procedure called radiofrequency ablation, and she wrote to the doctor who did the study, and asked him for the best place to go in the Northeast, " says James Parles, a pediatrician in Smithtown, New York.
