The British yacht Silk Cut narrowly lost out in a thrilling fight for fourth place in the leg.
Chessie Racing, which had adopted similar tactics to Silk Cut and had joined the British yacht's surge to the finish, was just 18 miles behind.
But despite losing out to their Norwegian rivals, Silk Cut finished just 63 minutes behind BrunelSunergy, to leave it in sixth place overall with two legs remaining.
Before this leg Silk Cut was languishing in sixth place having won just one leg, and Toshiba was in seventh overall having suffered a series of mishaps, including being disqualified from leg five, and the subject of a successful protest in leg seven.
