The main exhibits are the surprisingly large textile wall hangings, most of them vivacious painted cottons, although some are embroidered and block-printed or woven silkbrocade.
Ms Lovell weaves this story into the historical brocade of the early 19th century, when European demand for Chinese silk, tea and porcelain was insatiable.
