Liu said she spends most of her time recovering in the hospital, exercising her legs to help develop her muscles.
Recently her 14-year-old brother joined her in Beijing: Mrs Liu says she knew that he would leave when he returned home crying from school, because other pupils had nicer houses, and electricity.
No matter what, Liu says, she won't ever leave the family trade.

Later, when questioned by defense attorneys, Ms. Lee said she ultimately never reimbursed anyone and never told Ms. Hou or other Liu campaign workers about her offers.
"Unfortunately, she got caught up in the middle of an obsessive quest to get John Liu, " he said.
Mr. Liu said his former press secretary, Sharon Lee, also erred when she offered to reimburse several friends and family members for donations to the campaign.
Liu, who apologized to the restaurant, was told by the judge that she could not appeal against the decision.
