Will Mr Sezer's independent ideas lead the generals to launch an attack on him too?
Indeed, the keenly pro-secular President Sezer refused to accept one of them, Besir Atalay, as education minister.

The generals' ire was provoked when the prime minister, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, nominated his foreign minister, Abdullah Gul, to replace the strongly secular president, Ahmet Necdet Sezer, who was supposed to have stepped down in May.
Indeed, the reason that some generals are twitchy is that Mr Sezer has already said as much, in a speech he gave earlier this year to celebrate the 38th anniversary of the founding of the constitutional court.
