The good news for me and most investors is that making an iron-clad declaration for either secular bull or bear camp at this juncture is not necessary.
But inside Syria some of the signatories of the Damascus Declaration, an alliance of secular Syrians, Kurds and Islamists who got together in 2005, have been speaking out and are better known.
The declaration stated that Sudan should be a secular state or, failing this, that the south should be able to exercise the right of self-determination.
It was brought over by the reformed Calvinists in the 1600s, made secular and practical by Benjamin Franklin, expressed as the "Pursuit of Happiness" by Thomas Jefferson in the Declaration of Independence, noticed by Alexis de Tocqueville, defined by Max Weber and written into the popular culture by Horatio Alger and others.
