The Khan Academy was founded in 2008 by a MIT-grad hedge fund analyst Salman Khan after he began recording web tutorials on math and science for his younger cousins and uploading them to YouTube.
You guys deserve a lot of congratulations. (Applause.) We appreciate you. (Applause.) Progress has also been possible thanks to math and science coaches, and extra learning time in after-school, and Saturday school, and summer school.
But having sports and other extracurricular activities available to students makes school a place that is more than drudgery, and perhaps generates a little more enthusiasm for math and science during the day, knowing doing well allows students the privilege of playing basketball after school.
