The FAA plans to have a system whereby each aircraft in free flight has a satellite-linked probe that tells the pilot if another aircraft is within 20 miles.
In February, the Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (Wmap) satellite took the most detailed picture yet of the cosmic microwave background - an image of the infant cosmos when it was less than 400, 000 years old.
Next, since the radioactive probe attached itself to numerous different mini-satellite regions, there was no way to tell which of the 15 to 20 bands corresponded to a particular region.
Details of these predicted variations have been confirmed by the Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (WMAP) and other experiments, and will be further tested by the Planck satellite, data from which is currently under analysis.
