Growing up in SanFrancisco with frequent trips to Chinatown, I interacted with newly arrived Chinese as well as third- and fourth-generation Asians who spoke without accents.
That process requires a very different kind of thought process and one which I developed as a child when I discovered puzzle boxes in Chinatown in SanFrancisco.
