Mekel says the government's problems with the network grew during the recent Israeli military attacks inside Hamas-controlled Gaza following Palestinian rocket attacks on the southern Israeli town of Sderot and the port city of Ashkelon.
The display started at 1815 GMT on Wednesday at Scatcherd Park in the town and when the final rocket was launched the Last Post was played followed by Reveille.
The long-range rocket fired from Gaza earlier on Friday, which struck near the town of Ofakim, was the first of its kind in several months, an official said.
