Considering the huge natural-gas resource base in North America, the EIA has projected the U.S. to become net exporter of natural gas by 2022, helped by unlocking of the shale natural gas reserves in the country.
"There's a lot of people who don't recognize the amount of conservation the Marine Corps does, " said Martin Husung, a natural-resource specialist on the base.
The unconventional-gas bonanza has roughly doubled the gas resource base, a measure of the total gas in the ground rather than what might be economically recoverable.
The cost to countries of nutrient over-enrichment from the degradation of their marine and coastal natural resource base, and the services and livelihoods it provides, will increase without improved policy responses.
