If the regulatingvalves fail or if the cabin structure is breached (by a failure of a door or window for example) then the pressure in the cabin would suddenly drop to match the outside air pressure.
These valves use a screw type valve instead of a simple flap, and they have a pressure regulating mechanism that will vent water to the ground if the intake pressure exceeds a set level.
