Whereas the immediate focus of the Centre will be sub-regional and regional, the scope will ultimately be international.

Another key pillars of the programme are the water-related Centres under the auspices of UNESCO, called Category II, which deal with specific themes having regional and international scope, and the UNESCO Chairs devoted to specific themes involving water resources at university level.

The talk provided an ideal framework to discuss the way to link the Programme with the Cameras of Diversity Project dissemination network, an initiative that has since 2004 been developed by the UNESCO Regional Office for Culture, and to expand the geographic scope of the Programme.
