The Glazers, thus far, have stated unequivocally the club is not for sale despite the RedKnights appointing Japanese investment bank Nomura to help with their bid.
Riding on the crest of this wave of fan ill-feeling, a consortium of wealthy Manchester United fans dubbed the "Red Knights" have gone public with their intentions to buy the club from the Americans.
The RedKnights -- who are led by Goldman Sachs' chief economist Jim O'Neill -- say they will give supporters a greater say in the running of the club if the takeover were ever successful.
"Nomura will work closely with the RedKnights, the Manchester United Supporters' Trust and other potential investors to co-ordinate and formulate the proposal to be put to the Glazer family, " the financiers said in a statement.
Working with the "Red Knights" is the Manchester United Supporters' Trust (Must), which is running a vocal campaign to bring about a change of ownership and has recruited nearly 150, 000 members and the fans' group presented the ticket-price freeze as their first "victory".
