ENGADGET: Flipboard brings the noise in NPR-ified app update, Britta will be pleased
New feature called Reading List is a simple way to save a story to read it later.
All of the stories can be easily viewed on a mobile device, such as a Kindle and an iPad, by signing up for tools that format Web text for smaller screens, such as Instapaper, Readability or Read It Later.
Two things distinguish it from similar services like Instapaper and Read It Later: It provides an opt-in mechanism for readers to partially compensate creators for ads that get filtered away, and it places the highest premium on beauty and functionality.
Notables we're still waiting for include: Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare, Dropbox, Mint, PageOnce, TripIt, NPR, NYTimes, Angry Birds, Draw Something, Words with Friends, Temple Run, Spotify, Springpad, Remember the Milk, Amazon, Instapaper, Pocket (formerly Read it Later), Flipboard, Steam, Instagram, Nook, Zinio and Rdio.
For now, there are no first-party apps for Facebook and Twitter, which remains true on Windows 7 as well. (Twitter, at least, says it will have an app in the coming months.) Other missing biggies include: Foursquare, Mint, PageOnce, TripIt, NPR, Draw Something, Words with Friends, Temple Run, Spotify, Springpad, Remember the Milk, Instapaper, Pocket (formerly Read it Later), Flipboard, Steam, Instagram, Nook and Rdio.
This read-it-later service has become a replacement of the traditional browser bookmark for the short-attention-span, digital generation.
