Um er-Rasas (Kastrom Mefa'a) started as a Roman military camp and grew into a town in the Byzantine era and continues into the Early Islamic period.

The Director-General will also visit Um Er-Rasas, a World Heritage site inscribed on the World Heritage List in 2004, and the iconic site of Petra, inscribed on the List in 1985.
