Homeowners could face liability if for example, a driver's car is stolen while parked on their driveway, or if a driver hits a pedestrian while entering or exiting the rental space.
"It's a vibrant place and there's a bit more opportunity, certainly within the centre of town, to have shared space or to make it a pedestrian zone, " he said.
The right Class B or C building--despite its shoddier construction and pedestrian ZIP code--can work just fine, even after factoring in costs to upgrade the space, says Maura Cochran, principal at Hartford, Conn.
