Postmaster General PatrickDonahoe has called for five-day delivery and other cost-saving overhauls, but has so far failed to gain permission from Congress.

In response, Postmaster General PatrickDonahoe plans to close 3, 700 post offices, many in small rural communities where the local post office is their logistical supply line to the larger world.
But Postmaster General PatrickDonahoe said the Postal Service would do whatever it takes to maintain its operations, even if that means defaulting on a second multibillion-dollar retiree obligation in as many months.
