It's a less sophisticated auto-overclock, whereby three of the six cores are decelerated in order to give the other trio some extra voltage and speed for more serialized workloads.
"There's no easy way to go about overclocking our systems anymore, " says AMD spokesperson Drew Prairie, whose company has changed its chip design to make the chips difficult to overclock.
There's still room to overclock the beast, but it currently keeps its CPU humming at 4.5GHz with temperatures between 64 and 65 degrees Celsius, and can run its GPUs at 1225MHz with core temperatures at 46 and 56 degrees Celsius.
Why would you want to do this? speeeeed of course, up to 50% faster in some cases, but you can also (in theory) get better battery life and better performance if you underclock your device when you don't need all the speed and overclock when you do.
