Matthew Weiner, whose Mad Men won the coveted OutstandingDramaSeries award for the second year in a row, was being musically nudged off stage as the Emmy telecast was about to go a few minutes into overtime.
The star of ABC's "Scandal" picked up a trio of trophies at the 44th annual ceremony: outstanding actress in a dramaseries for "Scandal, " supporting actress in a motion picture for "Django Unchained" and the President's Award, which is given in recognition of special achievement and exceptional public service.
And Phyllis Logan, speaking for the cast of "Downton Abbey" when they won outstanding ensemble cast in a dramaseries, crowed, "Shut the front windows!"
