The Orion capsule, which is intended to carry at least four astronauts into Earth orbit and beyond, has completed its preliminary design review, or PDR.
Reports suggest Virgin boss Richard Branson will use the event to reveal design changes to the craft, which could be carrying its first passengers into orbit next year.
It derives its name from the two rotating systems that are the basis of the design: the main engine at its base, which will put it into orbit, and the rotor on top, which will enable it to touch down gently.
