Further into the future, opticaltweezers might offer a way of making objects such as computer memories whose components are but a few nanometres (billionths of a metre) across.
If it were possible to move the components around using opticaltweezers, and put them directly on to a base, that would open up a completely different approach to the problem and might, ultimately, result in a new manufacturing technology.
