None of the hundreds of passengers aboard the British-operated vessel were involved in the accident, which also injured three other crew members, said the Canary Islands port authority.
After the kidnapping, remaining crew-members - operated by Augusta Offshore SpA, a Naples-based shipping company in southern Italy - had sailed the vessel to safety.
