Openleaks is to Wikileaks what the Rollex some dodgy sod tried to sell me in the pub is to Rolex.
Those organizations can choose to store leaked information on their own servers or leave it in the hands of OpenLeaks, Domscheit-Berg says.
That difference, argues Domscheit-Berg, will allow OpenLeaks to accomplish much of the transparency achieved by WikiLeaks, without drawing the same political fury and legal pressure.
Domscheit-Berg has since become the spokesperson for OpenLeaks, a spin-off group that will provide secure leaking drop boxes for other media sites, NGOs and trade unions.

In the long term, Domscheit-Berg argues, WikiLeaks' greatest impact may not be any particular document release but the entire movement of second-generation sites like OpenLeaks that it has spawned.
Domscheit-Berg, a security guru associated with the Chaos Computer Club and a former staffer at IT giant EDS, has said that OpenLeaks is building its own anonymous submissions technology.

OpenLeaks is just one of a bumper crop of WikiLeaks-inspired sites popping up across the globe, borrowing various pieces of the original site's model of anonymous submissions and online publishing (see below).
In just the last weeks, WikiLeaks defector Daniel Domscheit-Berg announced his spinoff OpenLeaks, and half a dozen other likeminded leak projects have launched including IndoLeaks, BalkanLeaks, BrusselsLeaks, and Tunisia-focused TuniLeaks.

For example, if someone had information that revealed something untoward was happening in higher education, he or she could send that to an education organization without OpenLeaks even having access to it.
OpenLeaks also announced for the first time the names of its media partners: German newspapers Die Tageszeitung and the weekly Der Freitag, Danish paper Dagbladet Information, the Portugese newsweekly Expresso, as well as the German food- and environment-focused non-profit Foodwatch.
