For a decade, Google and the other search engines declined to use a verification program created in 1999 by a group representing U.S. state pharmacy regulators to weed-out rogue online drug sellers.
The U.S. Department of Justice announced that the Atlanta-based company would also "take steps" to block illicit online drug dealers from using their delivery service.
Amtech pointed out in a research note that a test Google search of each of the top 10 best-selling prescription drugs at that time turned up a slew of ads for Canadian online drug peddlers like CanadaDrugPharmacy.com and CanadaDrugCenter.com.
