It took place during the Forum on Science and Technology and Innovation for Sustainable Development in Rio de Janeiro on 13 June 2012.
The very first entry point to discuss ocean governance at Rio was a side event of the Forum on Science, Technology and Innovation for Sustainable Development on 12 June, focusing on Science and Governance for Global Sustainability.
Leading international scientists and policy-makers then came together during the Forum on Science Technology and Innovation for Sustainable Development in Rio de Janeiro in July 2012 and put forward a set of recommendation to help establish such co-designed research, technology and policy agendas.
Through this mechanism, the Secretary-General and UN agencies will be provided with comprehensive advice on all of the dimensions of science, technology and innovation for sustainable development, as well as on how to promote cooperation among various UN agencies and with the international scientific community.
The Forum on Science, Technology and Innovation for Sustainable Development will also provide an opportunity to launch the Future Earth initiative on 14 June.
Through this Board, the Secretary-General and UN agencies will obtain comprehensive advice on all dimensions of science, technology and innovation for sustainable development.
The Forum on Science, Technology and Innovation for Sustainable Development provided a platform to strengthen dialogue between researchers, governments, policy-makers and civil society to produce the knowledge and technology needed to build sustainable, green societies.
This publication was launched during the Plenary Thematic Session ' Indigenous Knowledge and Science: From Recognition to Knowledge Co-production' on 13 June 2012 during the five-day Forum on Science, Technology and Innovation for Sustainable Development, in Rio de Janeiro.
The Forum on Science, Technology and Innovation for Sustainable Development is organized by the International Council for Science (ICSU) in partnership with UNESCO, the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO), the International Council of Social Sciences, the Brazilian Department of Science, Technology and Innovation and the Academy Brazilian Science.
The Presidents welcomed the launch of the U.S.-Chile Energy Business Council, a new energy partnership focused on clean energy infrastructure to advance clean energy development, identify business and investment opportunities in both countries, and pursue collaboration on energy infrastructure resiliency, technology innovation, and incorporation of energy efficiency and renewables in industry, transportation, building and public sectors.
