Under the process of fracking, oil or gas is extracted from shale rock by pumping a mixture of sand, water and chemicals into the rock at high pressure.
At issue is whether the public has a right to know what chemicals are used in the extraction process and whether EPA has the ability to oversee wastewater disposal fromoil and gas production.
