Earlier this year the Irish province celebrated the 10th anniversary of their finest hour - that never-to-be-forgotten European Cup final victory at Lansdowne Road - and while they have continued to dine at the continent's top table ever since, they have been left mostly feeding on scraps.
Fans, who had never really taken to the Manchester-born boss, had long forgotten the fact that Megson had taken them from bottom of the table when he took over in October 2007 to safety and into the top 10 by Christmas 2008.
He's come a long way, and achieved incredible things along the ride, but he's never forgotten where he came from and his roots as a working-class kid from Scranton.
It's also nice to be back visiting in France -- the last time I was in the south of France -- or the first time, rather, was as a college student, and I've never forgotten the extraordinary hospitality of the French people and the extraordinary views that are available here.
