The hearing on Wednesday will delve into Mr. Todd's mentalstate in the days leading up to his death when a practitioner from a wellness clinic who counseled Todd is scheduled to testify.
Before the war he had dropped out of college, but he went back to university and collected his bachelor's degree, did some post-graduate work and ended up running a mental health programme at Florida State University.
Such a plea means he would be committed indefinitely to a statemental hospital if a jury agrees, but it would also open up his mental-health records to prosecutors.
The nonprofit National Alliance on Mental Illness, or NAMI, has stepped up programs over the past five years through its state chapters to train leaders for its support groups for patients and caregivers.
