Birtley-born striker Madine progressed through the club's youth ranks to earn a professional deal at Brunton Park, and made his debut against Nottingham Forest in March 2008.
Both Zoko and Marshall had efforts cleared off the line before the latter took advantage of a sleeping Wednesday defence to flick Madine's pass over the on-rushing Nicky Weaver.
Marshall's trickery was a constant threat to a fragile Wednesday defence in the second half, and when he combined expertly with Madine to force a corner, Michalik was on hand to thunder in a volley from inside the penalty area.
