"Tribes, " starting previews this week at New York's Barrow Street Theatre, is a lighthearted British drama by playwright Nina Raine about a deaf man who decides to learn sign language in his 20s after growing up in a family that insisted he lip-read and try to speak instead, in hopes of assimilating him into hearing culture.
