"I don't deny the debt is a serious and frightening thing for some people, but I do think it's important to get it into perspective in terms of the lifetime costs of what goes on and to ask the question of whether such an investment is indeed worthwhile, " he said.
But then, as I thought about it more and more, I began to ask myself the question, who would become president first if this were to happen in my lifetime?
All of this begs a question: Is it really fair to basically lock in most of a players' lifetime income based on his performance as a college senior and his draft position?
"It is not a question of the cost of the reform, it's a question of the reform leading to a fundamentally fairer society where people are taken off a lifetime of benefits, " he said.
