Earlier this month, a German hacker -- and licensed commercial pilot -- raised eyebrows with claims he developed an app that could remotely hijack an airplane using an Android phone.
Rose, a licensed airplane pilot who joined Global Marine straight out of the Air Force in 1963, watched the carnage from a comfortable distance, having jumped over to rival Diamond Offshore Drilling in 1976.
Nemeh Malek, director of the plane's owner, JR Executives, said the pilot had flown three or four times this week with a trained pilot, but was not licensed to fly without an instructor.
