Mrs Leggatt suffered leg injuries when she was shot on 15 March 2012.
He "categorically" denied shooting Mrs Leggatt, who he said he had split from amicably and still considered a friend.
Ian Acheson, prosecuting, said Ms Leggatt initially told police she thought it was her ex-husband who had shot her.

Ms Leggatt told the jury the wounds had healed but she had a large scar on her stomach where she was operated on and scarring on her leg.
Mr Acheson said Ms Leggatt and Mr Fraser had got together in 2006, but their relationship deteriorated and by 2011 he had moved out of their home, although remaining in touch.
