Cross-border acquisitions by South Korean companies should be led by the private sector, and state-run institutions such as KDB should play a "cheerleader role, " he said.
"Fourth-quarter earnings will depend on how much Samsung will (set aside) provisions for possible fines relating to a lawsuit with Apple, " said James Song from KDB Daewoo Securities.
The announcement comes as a special sting to investors who held some hope Friday their investment, which has lost 77.2% of its value over the past year, would see some measure of return from an entity like KDB.
