Security expert John Pike, director of GlobalSecurity.org, thinks power in the Arctic may lie with whoever has the best physical access to this forbidding region.
Huhne's name will now be added to that list of John Profumo, Jonathan Aitken and Jeffrey Archer, politicians all brought down by their ability to lie to Parliament or the courts.
"When people overtly lie about something, they can take something innocuous and make it into a bigger problem, " says John Caughlin, the study's lead researcher and professor of communication at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
