Donna Murphy and Jessie Mueller, for instance, are terrific, and the "Midsummer Night's Dream"-style set, designed by John Lee Beatty in collaboration with Soutra Gilmour, makes imaginative use of the Delacorte Theater's natural surroundings.

The two stories Beane is telling are brilliantly connected by John Lee Beatty's rotating set, which takes viewers both backstage and in the seats at a burlesque theater, as well as inside the apartment of Lane's Chauncey Miles.

Sony's offerings lean toward cult fare, including two titles starring Warren Beatty: John Frankenheimer's "All Fall Down" (1962), a dysfunctional-family drama that also stars Karl Malden and Angela Lansbury, and Arthur Penn's "Mickey One" (1965), whose surrealistic plot defies description.
